Magpie – work in progress

I’ve started on one of my favourite birds—the magpie. I think they’re a little underappreciated, perhaps because they’re so common here in the UK. They’re also the subject of a fair bit of superstition, including the familiar salute!

They’re beautiful when the sun catches their feathers, and I love seeing those flashes of white against the black wings as they fly away.

Anyway, the drawing is progressing, and I’ve painted quite a lot of it using my usual Inktense pencils and Bombay inks. The tail is still in pencil, but it’s coming together. All working towards another moving model.
